Abstract

Europeans began to come to Indonesia since the 16th century. And the first country to visit Indonesia was the Portuguese. Their arrival to Indonesia is due to economic factors, they want to get big profits in commerce. They would buy spices from the public at a low price and would sell them at a very high price. And another factor in their coming to Indonesia is to spread Christianity. And in the 16th century, Indonesia had the arrival of other Europeans, namely the Dutch and the British, the Danes and the French. Their goal was the same as the Portuguese and Spanish, namely to buy spices cheaply and sell them at high prices in their countries. The Dutch and the British took turns coming to Indonesia. The Netherlands not only monopolized trade in the Asian region, but also and this trade monopoly was controlled by the VOC (Vereenigde Oost IndeischCompagnie. Apart from trading the VOC was also given the right to carry out political activities to advance its trading business. With the control of politics and trade, education in Indonesia was also given. it will also be affected, because education in Indonesia began to be administered by people from the VOC.
